Life and register readings

Sâlim Efendi was born in Germili, Çemişgezek in 1839/40 (AH 1255). Work began in 1862/63, at about 23. The annual lists begin in 1862/63, with Sâlim as Dersim sancağı tahrirat kalemi mülâzımı and no place named. Sâlim then moved to Erzincan from 1863 to 1867. Alongside, the lists for 1866 to 1869 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Silâsî kazası tahrirat kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1868 to 1870 give a second post, in Amasya as Amasya sancağı heyet-i tahririye mukayyidi. Alongside, the lists for 1869 to 1882 give a second post, in Istanbul as Beyoğlu tahrirat kalemi müsevvidi. The lists have no entry for 1872 to 1876. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1880 give a second post, in Konya as Konya vilayeti müddeî-i umumisi. Next came Adana from 1881 to 1886. Alongside, the lists for 1885/86 give a second post, in Konya as Konya vilayeti istinaf mahkemesi müddeî-i umumisi. Five provinces on two continents in all, a number reached by fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.

Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1863/64 to a peak of 4,000 in 1878/79, in Konya, when 95 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1891/92.
