Life and register readings
Mehmed Fuad Efendi was born in Bursa in 1861/62 (AH 1278) into the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Hüdâvendigâr vilâyeti muhâkeme-i istinaf âzâsı". The first annual entry, for 1878, names neither a title nor a place for Mehmed Fuad. For 1881 to 1883 and 1887 to 1890 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1897 to 1900 give a second post, in Tire as aşar me’murluğu. At the same time, from 1899 to 1903, the lists also place Mehmed Fuad in Bergama as aşar me’murluğu. The last entries, from 1903 to 1907, name Mehmed Fuad as aşar me’murluğu, with no place. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1885/86.
Pay rose from 70 kuruş a month in 1878 to a peak of 1,350 in 1885/86, when 88 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 17 years the salaries add up to 191,220 kuruş, 2.3 times what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
