Life and register readings
Mehmet Bey was born in Dagistan in 1867/68 (AH 1284). Work began in 1894/95, at about 27. The annual lists begin in 1894/95, with Mehmet as Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane mezuniyeti (Görevin sona ermesi) in Istanbul. For 1895 to 1898 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1894 to 1899 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Bahriye Nezareti memuru. Next came Hereke from 1899 to 1903. At the same time, from 1900 to 1903, the lists also place Mehmet in a post with no place named as Binbasi. Hereke, about 1,700 km from Dagistan, was the post farthest from the birthplace; fewer than 6 per cent of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from home.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1899/1900, in Hereke, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1902/03.
