Life#
Hüseyin Sabri Efendi was born in Bursa in 1868/69 (AH 1285), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Hüseyin Sabri began work in Biga in 1886/87, at about 18, paid from the start, on 140 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1886/87, with Hüseyin Sabri as Musillik in Biga. Next came İnegöl from 1887 to 1892, then a return to Bursa, the birthplace, from 1892 to 1895. The annual lists then follow Hüseyin Sabri to İzmit in 1895/96, as a postal official (Posta Memuru), then Hereke from 1896 to 1901. The last posts were in Bursa again from 1901 to 1907, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
Pay rose from 140 kuruş a month in 1886/87 to a peak of 450 in 1901/02, as Muhabere Memuru in Bursa, when 45 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07. Hüseyin Sabri probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahval defterlerine göre Bursalı memurlar" by DERVİŞ ŞAFAK TOPRAK (2019) (the name, the birthplace, the archive register and second number and a place of service agree).
