Life and register readings
Musa Efendi was born in Hereke in 1845/46 (AH 1262); the father's occupation was "Yemenici". At about 9, in 1854/55, Musa began work in Hereke. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, 29 started at 9 or younger. The first annual entry, for 1854/55, names Musa as Fabrika çalışanı; görev belirtilmemiş, with no place. For 1855 to 1873 and 1874 to 1877 the lists have no entry. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1903/04. Entries spanning 51 years are rare, reached by fewer than 1 per cent of the 8,239 officials.
