Life and register readings
The life of İsmail Naşid Efendi began in Varna in 1854/55 (AH 1271). İsmail Naşid began work in Varna in 1872/73, at about 17, on a first salary of 40 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1872/73, places İsmail Naşid in Varna, the birthplace, as Meclis-i Temyiz-i Cinayet Kalemi memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1873 to 1878 give a second post, in Prevadi as Meclis-i Deavi kâtibi. İsmail Naşid then moved to İnegöl and Sandıklı from 1878 to 1884. Alongside, the lists for 1883 to 1887 give a second post, in Afyonkarahisar as Tarik Komisyonu kâtibi, with a rise to Tarik Komisyonu kâtibi. The lists have no entry for 1887 to 1890. Next came Sandıklı in 1890/91. For 1891 to 1899 the lists have no entry. The last entries, from 1899 to 1901, name İsmail Naşid as Düyun-ı Umumiye memur vekili, with no place. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1878, 1880/81 and 1883/84; Infisal for 1886/87.
The salary went from 40 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to 600 in 1880/81, the peak, when 68 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1900/01.
