Mehmed Hamdi Efendi

Mehmed Hamdi Efendi was born in Plave/Gosine in 1862/63 (AH 1279). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). At about 15, in 1877/78, Mehmed Hamdi began work, on a first salary of 130 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1877/78, names Mehmed Hamdi as Kordon bergis taburu bergis bölüğü bölük emini, with no place. For 1878 to 1879 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Hamdi to Berane from 1879 to 1885. The lists have no entry for 1880 to 1882. Alongside, the lists for 1884/85 give a second post, in Peja as Sandık emini. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1896 give a second post, in Berane as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1902 give a second post, in Peja as Cari İşler Dairesi görevlisi. Alongside, the lists for 1901/02 give a second post, in Berane as Merkez Dairesi görevlisi. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1879/80.

Pay rose from 130 kuruş a month in 1877/78 to a peak of 500 in 1887/88, as Mal Muduru in Berane, when 54 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 22 years of salary come to 117,840 kuruş, 1.1 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1901/02.
