Life and register readings
Osman Nuri Efendi was born in Harput in 1835/36 (AH 1251) into the İslam community. At about 17, in 1852/53, Osman Nuri began work in Harput. The first annual entry, for 1852/53, places Osman Nuri in Harput, the birthplace, as Vilayet muhasebe kalemi mülazımı. The lists have no entry for 1853 to 1865. Next came Botevgrad (Orhaniye) from 1865 to 1871. Alongside, the lists for 1870 to 1872 give a second post, in Dupnitsa as Vukuat kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1871 to 1878 give a second post, in a post with no place named as a customs official (Rüsumat Memuru), with a rise to Rüsumat Memuru. The last posts were in Keşan from 1878 to 1881 and Istanbul in 1882/83.
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1865/66 to 500 in 1869/70, the peak, in Botevgrad, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1882/83.
