Life and register readings
Osman Nuri Efendi was born in Nağza karyesi in 1863/64 (AH 1280) into the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Mabeyn-i Hümayun bekçisi (mütekaid)". Work began in 1876/77, at about 13. Few began so young; fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 13 or younger. From the first annual entry, for 1876/77, to 1882/83, every annual entry places Osman Nuri in the same post, tahrirat kalemi mülazımı, in Safranbolu.
