Life and register readings
Born in Shkodër (İşkodra) in 1840/41 (AH 1256), Yusuf Nasuhi Efendi came from the İslam community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Work began in Istanbul in 1877/78, at about 37, on a first salary of 100 kuruş. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 5 per cent started at 37 or older.
