Life and register readings
Rafsın Antuvan Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1842/43 (AH 1258) into the Katolik community. At about 23, in 1865/66, Rafsın Antuvan began work. The annual lists begin in 1865/66, with Rafsın Antuvan as Telgraf kurumu hizmeti and no place named. Alongside, the lists for 1867 to 1869 give a second post, in Beirut as Telgraf ve muhabere memuru. Rafsın Antuvan then moved to Zahlé (Zahle) from 1869 to 1873. Alongside, the lists for 1872 to 1885 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Telgraf merkezi müdürü. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1899 give a second post, in Zahlé as Merkez telgraf ve posta müdürü. Alongside, the lists for 1898/99 give a second post, in Beirut as Vilayet Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere başmemuru.
Pay rose from 350 kuruş a month in 1867/68 to a peak of 600 in 1876/77, when 64 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 33 years of salary come to 212,280 kuruş, 1.3 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1898/99.
