Life and register readings
İlyas Veysi Efendi was born in Dagistan in 1844/45 (AH 1260), into the İslam community. At about 27, in 1871/72, İlyas Veysi began work in Istanbul. The annual lists begin in 1871/72, with İlyas Veysi as İlmiye mensubu, ibtidâ-i hâriç derecesi in Istanbul, where the entries run to 1884/85. For 1885 to 1888 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1871 to 1878 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Maaş kaydı. The last posts were in Istanbul again from 1888 to 1892.
Pay rose from 50 kuruş a month in 1871/72 to a peak of 600 in 1891/92, in Istanbul, when 65 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1891/92.
