Born in Uşak in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Mehmed Ali Efendi (Ökselizâde) was the child of a merchant (tüccar). At about 15, in 1888/89, Mehmed Ali (Ökselizâde) began work in Uşak, on a first salary of 125 kuruş.
