Life and register readings
Yani Gevanidi Efendi was born in Turpçu köyü, Karahisar-ı Şarki, into the Hristiyan community. Work began in Trabzon in 1902/03 (AH 1320), on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1902/03, places Yani Gevanidi in Trabzon as Maiyyet memuru, where the entries run to 1906/07. Alongside, the lists for 1905/06 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Tahrir-i Nüfus Komisyonu Reisi. Next came Kıyıköy (Midye) from 1906 to 1911. At the same time, from 1910/11, the lists also place Yani Gevanidi in Karamürsel as a district governor (Kaymakam). The last post was in Gerede in 1911/12.
