Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

The life of Ömer Fevzi Efendi began in Bozat in 1853/54 (AH 1270); the father's occupation was "Bozat müderrisi". The first annual entry, for 1871/72, places Ömer Fevzi in Istanbul as Tıp Medresesi öğrencisi. The lists have no entry for 1872 to 1909. Ömer Fevzi then moved to Eyüpsultan in 1909/10. For 1910 to 1912 the lists have no entry. The last entries, from 1912 to 1915, name Ömer Fevzi as Mahmutpaşa Mahkeme-i Şer‘iyesi başkâtibi, with no place. Few careers in the lists are as long; fewer than 3 per cent of the 8,239 officials have entries spanning 46 years or more.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 1,000 kuruş a month in 1909/10, in Eyüpsultan, when 68 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1914/15.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
