Life and register readings
The life of Osman Fevzi Efendi began in Varna in 1867/68 (AH 1284); the father's occupation was "Bakkal". Work began in Çanakkale in 1884/85, at about 17. The annual lists begin in 1884/85, with Osman Fevzi as Aşar İdaresi mülazımı in Çanakkale, where the entries run to 1891/92. At the same time, from 1889 to 1897, the lists also place Osman Fevzi in a post with no place named as Düyun-ı Umumiye memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1898 give a second post, in Bayramiç as Düyun-ı Umumiye memuru. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1885/86 and İstifa (resignation) for 1891/92.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1886/87 to a peak of 350 in 1891/92, when 39 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 12 years of salary come to 42,600 kuruş, 73 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1897/98.
