Life and register readings
Born in Erzincan into the Hristiyan community, Mikail Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). Mikail began work in 1887/88 (AH 1305), on a first salary of 350 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, names Mikail as memleha katibi (geçici), with no place. For 1891 to 1895 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Erzincan, the birthplace, from 1895 to 1897.
Pay rose from 350 kuruş a month in 1887/88 to a peak of 500 in 1888/89, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1896/97.
