RUM MĠLLETĠNDEN NĠKOLA KRUS EFENDĠ was born in Antalya in 1853/54 (AH 1270) into the Hristiyan community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). The schooling was at a Greek Orthodox school (Rum Mektebi).
Work began in 1867/68, at about 14. The first annual entry, for 1867/68, names RUM MĠLLETĠNDEN NĠKOLA KRUS EFENDĠ as Muhasebe kalemi mülazımı, with no place. At the same time, from 1876 to 1880, the lists also place RUM MĠLLETĠNDEN NĠKOLA KRUS EFENDĠ in Antalya as Rüsumat müdüriyeti üçüncü katibi. For 1880 to 1884 the lists have no entry. The lists give Vefat (death) for 1884/85 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 100 kuruş a month in 1870/71 to a peak of 370 in 1876/77, in Antalya, when 40 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 11 years of salary come to 30,600 kuruş, 54 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1884/85.
