Life and register readings
Muhyeddin Efendi was born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1880/81 (AH 1298); the father's occupation was "Yemen vilayeti Lihye telgraf ve posta merkezi müdürü". Work began in Al-Khums (Hums) in 1896/97, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Muhyeddin in Al-Khums as Telgraf merkezi mülazımı. At the same time, from 1900 to 1902, the lists also place Muhyeddin in Al-Salt (Salt) as Telgraf ve posta merkezi müdür/muhabere memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1901/02 give a second post, in Damascus as Telgraf ve posta merkezi muhabere memuru. Muhyeddin then moved to Al-Salt in 1904/05. Alongside, the lists for 1904 to 1906 give a second post, in Ma'an as Telgraf ve posta merkezi memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1905/06 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Posta seyyar memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1905/06 give a second post, in Al-Khums as Telgraf ve posta merkezi muhabere memuru. The farthest post, Al-Khums, lay about 2,800 km from Mecca, and 30 of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 800 kuruş a month in 1900/01, in Al-Salt, when 77 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
