Life and register readings
Mehmed Kadri Bey was born in Istanbul in 1856/57 (AH 1273); the father's occupation was "Feshane Nazırı". At about 17, in 1874/75, Mehmed Kadri began work in Istanbul. The first annual entry, for 1874/75, places Mehmed Kadri in Istanbul, the birthplace, as Mezahib Odası mülazımı, where the entries run to 1877/78. For 1878 to 1882 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Kadri to Tiflis in 1883/84. Alongside, the lists for 1885 to 1888 give a second post, in Istanbul as Bâbıâli Hukuk Müşavirliği muavini. The last entry, for 1888/89, names Mehmed Kadri as Bombay başşehbenderi, with no place. The lists give Infisal for 1877/78 and 1883/84 instead of a title.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 2,000 kuruş a month in 1882/83, when 93 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 60,000 kuruş, 4.2 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1888/89.
