Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Hüsrev Ağa began in Ohrid (Ohri). Mehmed Hüsrev studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). Work began in Bitola (Manastır) in 1878/79 (AH 1296), on a first salary of 1,500 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1878/79, places Mehmed Hüsrev in Bitola as Ta'dad-ı ağnam memuru. Mehmed Hüsrev then moved back to Ohrid, the birthplace, from 1879 to 1882. For 1882 to 1887 the lists have no entry. The last entries, from 1887 to 1895, name Mehmed Hüsrev as Nahiye Muduru, with no place. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1894/95.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 1,500 kuruş a month in 1878/79, in Bitola, when 84 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 400 kuruş. In all, five years of salary come to 39,120 kuruş, 1.6 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1894/95.
