Life and register readings
Leon Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1869/70 (AH 1286) into the Hristiyan community; the father's occupation was "Mukavelat muharriri". At about 14, in 1882/83, Leon began work in Aleppo, on a first salary of 100 kuruş.
