Life and register readings
The life of Mehmet Behçet Efendi began in Kars in 1855/56 (AH 1272); the father's occupation was "Jandarma yüzbaşı". At about 16, in 1871/72, Mehmet Behçet began work in Siirt. The annual lists begin in 1871/72, with Mehmet Behçet as Meclis-i İdare Kalemi mülazımı in Siirt, where the entries run to 1880/81. For 1873 to 1879 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Mal Muduru. Mehmet Behçet then moved back to Siirt from 1882 to 1898, with a rise to Muhasebe Kalemi varidat başkâtibi, then Bitlis from 1899 to 1902. The lists have no entry for 1888 to 1895. Alongside, the lists for 1901/02 give a second post, in Bulanık as Mal Muduru. The last post was in Garzan in 1903/04.
The salary went from 70 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to 640 in 1883/84, the peak, in Siirt, when 73 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1903/04.
