Mehmed Şemseddin Efendi

Mehmed Şemseddin Efendi was born in Harput in 1835/36 (AH 1251). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). Work began in Nazımiye (Kızılkilise) in 1882/83, at about 48, on a first salary of 225 kuruş. Few began so late; fewer than 1 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 48 or older. The first annual entry, for 1882/83, places Mehmed Şemseddin in Nazımiye as Mal Muduru Vekili. At the same time, from 1882 to 1885, the lists also place Mehmed Şemseddin in Pah as Sandık emini. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1887 give a second post, in Nazımiye as Sandık emini. The lists have no entry for 1887 to 1904. Next came Carsancak from 1904 to 1906. Alongside, the lists for 1905 to 1907 give a second post, in Keban as Tahsilat müfettişi. Alongside, the lists for 1906 to 1908 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Tahsilat müfettişi.

Pay rose from 360 kuruş a month in 1882/83 to a peak of 400 in 1904/05, in Carsancak, when 42 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
