Life and register readings
The life of Ömer Lütfi Efendi began in Afyonkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Sahib) in 1860/61 (AH 1277). At about 15, in 1875/76, Ömer Lütfi began work in Bursa. The first annual entry, for 1875/76, places Ömer Lütfi in Bursa as Telgrafhane mülazımı. Ömer Lütfi then moved to Ruse in 1877/78. Alongside, the lists for 1877/78 give a second post, in Baruthane as Muvakkat muhabere memuru. Next came Kırklareli from 1878 to 1880. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1881 give a second post, in Az Zaydiyah as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). For 1881 to 1885 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in Sana'a as Muhabere Memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1887 to 1889 give a second post, in Bajil as Telgraf Muduru. The annual lists then follow Ömer Lütfi to Az Zaydiyah from 1889 to 1891. Alongside, the lists for 1890 to 1892 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Telgraf ve posta merkezi müdürü. Alongside, the lists for 1891 to 1894 give a second post, in Lice as Telgraf ve posta merkezi müdürü. Ömer Lütfi then moved to Tarsus from 1894 to 1899.
Pay rose from 600 kuruş a month in 1877/78 to a peak of 1,200 in 1889/90, as Telgraf Muduru in Az Zaydiyah, when 84 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1904/05.
