Life and register readings
Born in Komotini (Gümülcine) in 1876/77 (AH 1293), HÜSEYİN HÜSNÜ EFENDİ (B) was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). At about 12, in 1887/88, HÜSEYİN HÜSNÜ (B) began work in Komotini. Few began so young; fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 12 or younger. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, places HÜSEYİN HÜSNÜ (B) in Komotini, the birthplace, as Gümülcine Sancağı Tahrirat Kalemi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1909/10. Alongside, the lists for 1894/95 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Nakil.
