Life and register readings

Born in Çemişgezek in 1843/44 (AH 1259), Yusuf Ziya Efendi came from the İslam community. Yusuf Ziya began work in Istanbul in 1865/66, at about 22, on a first salary of 350 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1865/66, with Yusuf Ziya as Zabtiye alayı dördüncü sınıf teftiş memuru in Istanbul. Next came Osmancik from 1868 to 1871. Alongside, the lists for 1870 to 1874 give a second post, in Vezirköprü as Tahrirat kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1873 to 1875 give a second post, in Gümüşhacıköy as Tahrirat kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1874/75 give a second post, in Merzifon as Mal Muduru, with a rise to Mal Muduru. Yusuf Ziya then moved to Vezirköprü from 1875 to 1878. Alongside, the lists for 1878 give a second post, in Zile as Mal Muduru Vekili. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1881 give a second post, in Osmancik as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1883 to 1885 give a second post, in Gümüşhacıköy as Aşar başkâtibi. The annual lists then follow Yusuf Ziya to Erbaa in 1886/87. Alongside, the lists for 1888/89 give a second post, in Suşehri as Mal Muduru. The last post was in Osmancik again in 1889/90.

Pay rose from 350 kuruş a month in 1865/66 to a peak of 600 in 1887/88, as Mal Muduru, when 64 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1898/99.
