Life and register readings

Born in Bursa in 1857/58 (AH 1274), Mehmed Kamil Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Piyade asker zabtiye tabur kâtibi". The annual lists begin in 1876/77, with Mehmed Kamil as Mihalıç telgraf merkezi muhâbere me’muriyeti and no place named. Mehmed Kamil then moved to Bursa and Eskişehir from 1878 to 1880. Alongside, the lists for 1879/80 give a second post, in Bursa as Bursa telgraf merkezleri muhâbere me’muriyetleri. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Kamil to Thessaloniki (Selanik) from 1881 to 1884. Alongside, the lists for 1883/84 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Büyük Karaburun telgraf merkezi muhâbere me’muriyeti. Next came Servia in 1888/89, then a post with no place named from 1889 to 1895. The last post was in Bolu in 1895/96. In place of a title the lists give Azil (dismissal) for 1885/86.

Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1876/77 to a peak of 475 in 1883/84, when 59 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 400 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1895/96.
