Life and register readings
İbrahim Ethem Efendi was born in Ürgüp in 1838/39 (AH 1254); the father was a merchant (tüccar). Work began in Ürgüp in 1857/58, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1857/58, places İbrahim Ethem in Ürgüp, the birthplace, as Tahrirat Odası hizmeti, where the entries run to 1859/60. For 1860 to 1874 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow İbrahim Ethem to Karacasu from 1874 to 1884. Alongside, the lists for 1883 to 1887 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Nahiye Muduru.
