Life and register readings
İrfan Bey was born in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1856/57 (AH 1273); the father's occupation was "Selanik vilayeti tomruk kâtibi". At about 16, in 1873/74, İrfan began work in Istanbul. The annual lists begin in 1873/74, with İrfan as Bâb-ı Âli Tahrirat-ı Ecnebiye Odası mülazımı in Istanbul. Next came Trabzon from 1877 to 1881. The last entries, from 1881 to 1894, name İrfan as Yenişehir şehbenderi, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1882 to 1887. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1888/89 and 1893/94; Mazuliyet for 1888/89 and 1893/94.
