Life and register readings
Mustafa Veysi Bey was born in Damascus (Şam) in 1862/63 (AH 1279); the father was a district governor or lieutenant colonel (kaymakam). At about 16, in 1878/79, Mustafa Veysi began work in Damascus, on a first salary of 50 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1878/79, with Mustafa Veysi as Merkez Muhasebe Kalemi memuru in Damascus, the birthplace. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1903 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Aşar Nezareti Kalemi mukayyidi. The lists give Infisal for 1880/81 and İstifa (resignation) for 1883/84 instead of a title.
