Life and register readings
Mahmud Rasih Efendi was born in Mytilene (Midilli) in 1844/45 (AH 1260). Work began in Istanbul in 1860/61, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1860/61, places Mahmud Rasih in Istanbul as Senedat Dairesi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1871/72. For 1872 to 1878 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1871/72, the lists also place Mahmud Rasih in Çeşme as a district governor (Kaymakam). The annual lists then follow Mahmud Rasih to Kos (İstanköy) and Veliko Tarnovo (Tırnova) from 1878 to 1886. The lists have no entry for 1879 to 1883, 1886 to 1891 and 1892 to 1902.
