Seyyid Efendi

The life of Seyyid Efendi began in Dagistan in 1834/35 (AH 1250). Work began in Pınarhisar in 1867/68, at about 33, on a first salary of 833 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1867/68, with Seyyid as Pınarhisar kaza müdürü in Pınarhisar, where the entries run to 1870/71. At the same time, from 1870 to 1872, the lists also place Seyyid in a post with no place named as Pınarhisar kaymakamı. Alongside, the lists for 1871/72 give a second post, in Sultanyeri as Sultanyeri kaymakamı. Next came Rize in 1873/74. Alongside, the lists for 1874/75 give a second post, in Pınarhisar as Pınarhisar kaymakamı. Seyyid then moved to Anamur from 1876 to 1881. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in Mut as Mut kaymakamı. The last entry, for 1894/95, names Seyyid as Daday kaymakamı, with no place. The farthest post, Sultanyeri, lay about 1,800 km from Dagistan, and fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from the birthplace.

Pay rose from 833 kuruş a month in 1867/68 to a peak of 2,250 in 1873/74, in Rize, when nine in ten paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 1,350 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1894/95.
