Life and register readings
Born in Erzincan, Mehmed Efendi came from the İslam community. Mehmed studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). Work began in Izmir (İzmir) in 1861/62 (AH 1278), on a first salary of 130 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1861/62, with Mehmed as Gumruk Mubassiri in Izmir. Next came a post with no place named from 1863 to 1876, with a rise to gümrük memuru, then Tutrakan from 1876 to 1878.
