Life and register readings

The life of SEYİT ALİ ZİHNİ EFENDİ began in Kirkuk (Kerkük) in 1857/58 (AH 1274). At about 15, in 1872/73, ALİ ZİHNİ began work in Kirkuk, on a first salary of 50 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1872/73, places ALİ ZİHNİ in Kirkuk, the birthplace, as Muhasebe kalemi refiki, where the entries run to 1878. The annual lists then follow ALİ ZİHNİ to Mosul in 1878/79. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1892 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Mal Muduru. For 1886 to 1888 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Kifri in 1892/93 and Kifri (Salahiye) again in 1894/95.

The salary went from 50 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to 600 in 1893/94, the peak, when 65 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1894/95.
