Life and register readings
Süleyman Faik Efendi was born in Skopje (Üsküp) in 1855/56 (AH 1272); the father's occupation was "Kosova Vilayeti istinaf azası". Work began in Skopje in 1873/74, at about 17, on a first salary of 25 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1873/74, places Süleyman Faik in Skopje, the birthplace, as Tahrirat birimi görevlisi, where the entries run to 1884/85. At the same time, from 1877 to 1890, the lists also place Süleyman Faik in a post with no place named as Görevin sona ermesi. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1874/75 and 1880/81 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 40 kuruş a month in 1873/74 to a peak of 480 in 1884/85, when 58 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 450 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1889/90.
