Life and register readings
Naum Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1862/63 (AH 1279) into the Katolik community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 18, in 1880/81, Naum began work in Aleppo, on a first salary of 220 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1880/81, places Naum in Aleppo, the birthplace, as Halep Bidayet Mahkemesi Kalemi memuru. Next came Harem (Harim) from 1881 to 1884. From 1885 to 1903 the annual entries place Naum again in Aleppo. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1883/84 instead of a title.
