Mehmed Hurşid Efendi was born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1851/52 (AH 1268). Work began in 1865/66, at about 14. The first annual entry, for 1865/66, names Mehmed Hurşid as Hicaz Vilayeti Muhasebe Odası mülazımı, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1877 to 1878. At the same time, from 1876 to 1880, the lists also place Mehmed Hurşid in Jeddah (Cidde) as Cidde Sancağı tahrirat müdürü refiki vekili.
