Life and register readings

Mehmed Arifi Bey was born in Hassa in 1857/58 (AH 1274); the father's occupation was "Cebel-i Bereket ümerası". Work began in Edirne in 1873/74, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1873/74, names Mehmed Arifi as a candidate official (Mülazım), with no place. Next came Edirne and İskenderun from 1877 to 1880. The lists have no entry for 1880 to 1886. At the same time, from 1879 to 1891, the lists also place Mehmed Arifi in a post with no place named as Meclis-i İdare başkâtibi. For 1887 to 1890 the lists have no entry.

The one salary in the lists is 180 kuruş a month, for 1876/77, when 13 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1890/91.
