Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

The life of Ömer Efendi began in Nikšić (Nikşik) in 1887/88 (AH 1305); the father's occupation was "Hâkân-ı Sâbık tüfekçisi". Work began in Istanbul in 1902/03, at about 15, on a first salary of 120 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1902/03, to 1910/11, every annual entry places Ömer in the same post, Enderûn-ı Hümâyûn hademesi, in Istanbul.

The salary went from 120 kuruş a month in 1902/03 to 200 in 1910/11, the peak, in Istanbul, when 6 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over nine years the salaries add up to 13,920 kuruş, 28 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1910/11.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
