Life and register readings
Mehmed Rifad Efendi was born in Tokat in 1872/73 (AH 1289). Work began in Tokat in 1888/89, at about 16, on a first salary of 17.5 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1888/89, names Mehmed Rifad as Cari Hesaplar Kâtibi Vekili, with no place. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Rifad back to Tokat, the birthplace, from 1889 to 1898, then Amasya in 1900/01 and Niksar in 1901/02. For 1891 to 1893, 1898 to 1900 and 1902 to 1905 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1901/02 give a second post, in Zile as Kaymakam Vekili. The last posts were in Isparta in 1905/06 and Merzifon in 1907/08 and Amasya again in 1909/10.
