Rasim İspiro Efendi

Rasim İspiro Efendi was born in Kemaliye (Eğin) in 1850/51 (AH 1267), into the Hristiyan community. Work began in Jaffa (Yafa) in 1862/63, at about 12. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 3 per cent started at 12 or younger. The annual lists begin in 1862/63, with Rasim İspiro as Tahrirat Kalemi mülazımı and no place named. For 1863 to 1870 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Rasim İspiro to Damascus in 1870/71. Alongside, the lists for 1870/71 give a second post, in Beirut as Rüsumat Nezareti muhasebecisi. Next came Izmir (İzmir) from 1872 to 1880, then Çatalca from 1885 to 1888, with a rise to Sancak Muhasebecisi in 1885/86. Entries spanning 46 years are rare, reached by fewer than 3 per cent of the 8,239 officials.

Pay rose from 800 kuruş a month in 1870/71 to a peak of 2,000 in 1887/88, as Sancak Muhasebecisi in Çatalca, when 92 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
