MEHMET EMĠN EFENDĠ was born in Antalya in 1839/40 (AH 1255); the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 15, in 1853/54, MEHMET EMĠN EFENDĠ began work in Antalya, on a first salary of 150 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1853/54, with MEHMET EMĠN EFENDĠ as Şer‘iyye Mahkemesi mukayyidi in Antalya, the birthplace. Next came Istanbul from 1855 to 1860, then a post with no place named from 1860 to 1880. Alongside, the lists for 1862/63 give a second post, in Antalya as Geçici ağnam kâtibi.
