Life and register readings
The life of Mustafa Nazım Efendi began in Tokat in 1878 (AH 1295); the father's occupation was "Tokat Ticaret Mahkemesi, Belediye ve İdare Meclisleri azası". At about 24, in 1902/03, Mustafa Nazım began work in Sivas, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1902/03, with Mustafa Nazım as Vilayet maiyet memuru in Sivas. Alongside, the lists for 1902/03 give a second post, in Divriği as Öşür ihale memuru (ilave). Mustafa Nazım then moved to Hafik (Koçhisar), Alucra and Gümüşhacıköy from 1904 to 1909. Alongside, the lists for 1910/11 give a second post, in Beyşehir as a district governor (Kaymakam). The annual lists then follow Mustafa Nazım to Istanbul in 1911/12. The last entry, for 1912/13, names Mustafa Nazım as Kaymakam, with no place. Few officials served in as many places; fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did.
The salary went from 500 kuruş a month in 1902/03 to 2,000 in 1909/10, the peak, as Kaymakam, when 86 per cent of paid officials earned less.
