Life#
Hafız Ahmet Efendi was born in Bosna in 1864/65 (AH 1281) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). At about 26, in 1890/91, Ahmet began work in the Tahrirat Kalemi in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1890/91, places Ahmet in Istanbul in the correspondence office (Tahrirat Kalemi), where the entries run to 1894/95. Ahmet then moved to Kastamonu and Sivas from 1896 to 1900, with a rise to a post in the clerkship of the chief director's office (Başmüdür Kitabeti) in 1896/97, then back to Kastamonu from 1900 to 1904, with a rise to Mufettis Muavin Vekili in 1902/03. The last post was in Sinop in 1904/05.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1890/91 to a peak of 950 in 1902/03, as Mufettis Muavin Vekili in Kastamonu, when 87 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1904/05. Ahmet probably has an entry in "II. Abdülhamid Dönemi Bosna-Hersekli devlet adamları" by DİLEK AKDEMİR (2018) (the name and the birthplace agree).
