Life#
Hasan Bey was born in Cerkezistan in 1853/54 (AH 1270) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a primary school (İbtidai Mektebi).
The first annual entry, for 1875/76, places Hasan in Istanbul as 3. Sinif Teftis Memuru, where the entries run to 1880/81. Next came Beyoğlu from 1881 to 1896, with a rise to police commissioner, second class (2. Sınıf Polis Komiseri), then Kastamonu from 1896 to 1901. The last posts were in Aleppo in 1901/02, as a chief police commissioner (Başkomiser) and Kastamonu again from 1902 to 1904.
The salary went from 380 kuruş a month in 1875/76 to 1,000 in 1901/02, the peak, as Başkomiser in Aleppo, when 87 per cent of paid officials earned less.
