Life and register readings
Mehmed Faik Efendi was born in Tokat in 1862/63 (AH 1279); the father was a district governor or lieutenant colonel (kaymakam). At about 17, in 1879/80, Mehmed Faik began work. The first annual entry, for 1879/80, names Mehmed Faik as Stajyer, with no place. For 1880 to 1883 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1879/80 give a second post, in Tokat as Öşür İdaresi Evrak Kayıt Memuru. Next came Niksar, Sivas and Osmancik from 1884 to 1888. The last post was in Taşköprü in 1889/90.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 600 in 1887/88, as Mal Muduru in Osmancik, when 64 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1889/90.
