Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Selim Efendi began in Mecca (Mekke) in 1824/25 (AH 1240). At about 35, in 1859/60, Mehmed Selim began work in Mecca. The first annual entry, for 1859/60, places Mehmed Selim in Mecca, the birthplace, as Mahkeme-i Şeriyye vekayi kâtibi, where the entries run to 1885/86. The lists have no entry for 1860 to 1885. Next came Zabid (Zebid) from 1886 to 1889. The last posts were in Zabid again from 1894 to 1898.
