Mehmet Hilmi Efendi was born in Şereflikoçhisar (Koçhisar) in 1892/93 (AH 1310), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took nine years, at a preparatory secondary school (İdadi Mektebi); Mehmet Hilmi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
