Life#
Mehmet Selim Efendi was born in Beirut (Beyrut) in 1881/82 (AH 1299), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took nine years, at a preparatory secondary school (İdadi Mektebi); Mehmet Selim also wrote Arabic as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Mehmet Selim began work in Beirut in 1901/02, at about 19, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. From 1901/02 to 1910/11 every annual entry places Mehmet Selim in Beirut, the birthplace, first as an official of the union post (İttihat Posta Memuru), from 1907/08 as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
